The Mediation Institute, an organization which provides mediation services and mediation training in family, governmental, and corporate arenas, was founded by James Stovall in 1992. Today there are two offices, one in Oklahoma City and one in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Growth and a demand for qualified Oklahoma mediators was the driving force for Shelly Harvill-Kamm and Brenda Spencer, who together launched the Tulsa office of The Mediation Institute. The Tulsa office provides mediation services in both family, workplace and civil matters in a comfortable and private environment, conveniently located near downtown Tulsa. The mediation Institute is one of the only mediation facilities in the state with offices in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Our reach extends to outlying counties and we have multiple mediators for convenient scheduling options.

In addition to a full time mediation practice, the Institute hosts mediation training classes to train professionals in mediation and conflict resolution skills. The Mediation Institute is the primary location for mediation training in the state of Oklahoma and mediation courses are available in Tulsa and Oklahoma City every quarter. The Mediation Institute has had the fortune of educating some of the areas most qualified mediators in family, divorce, civil and employment mediation. Past clients include, judges, mayors, tribal leaders and professionals from the legal, education, psychology, real estate and human resource industries.

Our mediators are qualified and listed as court approved mediators in the state of Oklahoma and are all active members of The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR). ACR is the nation’s largest professional association for mediators, arbitrators, educators and other conflict resolution practitioners. Its mission is to advance the practice, research, public understanding and teaching of conflict prevention and resolution. With more than 6,500 members, ACR works in a wide range of settings throughout the United States and around the world.

Brenda has developed a career rich in child development and family relations.

Brenda has invested nearly ten years in understanding and working through the family court system and has devoted her experience and skills to the promotion of mediation in family and divorce conflicts working toward resolution.

Shelly Harvill-Kamm

As a Director and Mediator at the Mediation Institute, Mrs. Harvill-Kamm is committed to promoting the benefits of mediation in the workplace, organizational management and promoting community awareness of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Over the past 18 years, Shelly has cultivated valuable knowledge in the medical, real estate and information technology industries. Shelly has worked with various organizations to include G. E. Medical Systems, Cerner Corporation, The Methodist Hospital, University of Texas Medical Branch, Several Oklahoma Indian tribes, casinos, medical facilities and medical offices throughout the United States, Western Canada and Australia.

As a mediator, Shelly provides guidance and manageable solutions to organizations and small businesses in need of conflict resolution intervention and dispute prevention. Shelly is a Certified Trainer in Managing Workplace Conflict, is on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators, she is an active member of the Association of Conflict Resolution, as well as the National Association of Realtors. James L. Stovall

Jim Stovall founded The Mediation Institute, an organization which provides mediation services and training in family, governmental, and corporate arenas, in 1992. Engaged in the full-time practice of mediation since 1988, he has assisted hundreds of families involved in transitions.

Mr. Stovall has conducted training workshops in Egypt, India, Indonesia, and 23 states in the U.S.

He has taught mediation and negotiation at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City University School of Law, and the University of Central Oklahoma.

Mr. Stovall has conducted training for over 1000 individuals, including judges, attorneys, executives, as well as human resource and mental professionals.

He holds a Master of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary, a BA from the University of Illinois, and attended Louisiana State University Law School. He is a member and past president of the Oklahoma Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators and is a Practioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution.

At the Tulsa office of The Mediation Institute we provide a full range of Oklahoma family, divorce ,workplace and employment mediation services and mediation training for residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and communities throughout Tulsa and Oklahoma Counties, including Oklahoma City, Broken Arrow, Jenks, Sand Springs, Bartlesville, Norman, Edmond, Yukon, Claremore, Owasso, Bixby, Glenpool, Stillwater and Shawnee Ok.
